Muslin backdrop characteristics
Why do some have rod pockets and others must be hung with clamps?
We have found, from experience, that trying to hang a canvas textured
backdrop through a rod pocket is much more difficult than using
clamps. However, a rod pocket is very useful for the dyed, natural,
designer and classic muslin backdrops for effects such as draping or
gathering. With this in mind, each of our Chromakey green, Chromakey
blue, Natural, White, Black and Designer Muslins have rod pockets.
What width and height background should I order?
Width and height requirements are determined by your intended use and
size of your subject group in relationship to your camera, lens
configuration, lighting, accessories included in the shot and your
overall style of photography. Before ordering you might consider
formatting your intended photo shoot so that you can accurately verify
the size requirements of the background.
What sizes do muslin backgrounds come in?
Muslin backgrounds are currently available in many different sizes
starting from 10' x 9' going up to 10' x 60'. Please click on the drop
down menu located on muslin product pages to see the different sizes
available and call us if you need a special size, We can make any size.
What is the difference between painted and dyed muslin?
Painted muslin is just as it says-painted. Normally acrylic paint is
diluted and sprayed on the surface of raw muslin to achieve the desired
effect. The advantage of painted muslin is that we can control the
pattern. The disadvantage is that it is a little stiffer and more
"wrinkley" than dyed muslin. The advantage of dyed muslin over painted
is that it has a softer texture. The disadvantage is that we can only
control the pattern to a certain extent.
Are your backgrounds flame resistant, and if not, can they be made flame resistant?
Our backgrounds are painted using a water-based paint rather than oil
based which is highly combustible. However, our backgrounds are not
flame resistant. There are commercially available sprays that will make
a background flame resistant. Always do a spot test before applying any
substance to the whole background.
Will I need to finish the edges when I receive my backdrop?
No. All of our backdrops come finished with a manufactured fringe
selvedge edge along its length and a sewn hem at the top and bottom. All
backdrops are ready to use right out of the box.
